Foci Bakery

I’m a fan of focaccia bread because it’s light, but paired with a good filling, it’s satisfying. That’s exactly why I like Foci Bakery – it’s perfect for a quick lunch. Even something as simple as their focaccia with pesto hits the spot, but if you’re after something more filling, they also do something like the Thicc Breakfast Sandwich, packed with pork belly pastrami and egg. Yum!

Kalos

Its spacious open-air setting and garden surroundings create a peaceful atmosphere where time seems to move a little slower. Enjoy a quiet coffee, take your time with a freshly baked croissant, or settle in for a few hours of work. The menu follows the same balance, offering nourishing salads alongside international menu and comfort meals like pasta and pizza.

Seta Coffee

A beautifully designed space that feels both stylish and familiar. The cosy interior blends modern cafe design with Indonesian touches, from wooden pillars and Javanese patterned tiles to woven details and batik accents. There’s a warmth to the space that feels like stepping into an Indonesian home. Beyond coffee, their menu also offers a range of international dishes.

Baker Butcher Barista

True to its name, Baker Butcher Barista brings together three things they do best: baked goods, hearty dishes, and coffee creations. Their menu is filled with interesting choices, from pastries like the cempedak croissant (a tropical jackfruit-like fruit native to Southeast Asia) to playful drinks like the Teh Botol Latte and Onde-Onde (glutinous rice ball filled with mung bean paste and coated with sesame seeds). The space itself is equally inviting – comfortable, and well-designed for everything from a quick coffee stop to a relaxed meal.

Seniman Coffee

Some places never go out of style, and Seniman Coffee is one of them. It’s almost an unspoken rule that if you’re in Ubud, you have to stop by at least once. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, it always feels good to come back. After all these years, it’s still one of Ubud’s true coffee legends.

Where to Eat Indonesian Food in Bali: My Current Favourites

Where to eat Indonesian food in Bali. I enjoy all kinds of international cuisine, but being born Indonesian, I’ll always find myself coming back to Indonesian food for comfort, no matter where I am. There’s something grounding about it; the rich flavours, the familiarity, and the way it just feels like home in a way nothing else quite does. Here, I’ve put together a list of places I usually go to for my everyday Indonesian meals in Bali - nothing too fancy, but also not quite street food; somewhere in the middle where you can still get authentic, home-cooked-style flavours. I’ll be sharing more Indonesian-food related articles soon, including a babi guling list (suckling pig) and a selection of more elevated Indonesian dining experiences, but for now, here’s where to eat Indonesian food in Bali. You may also like this article: Bali on a Budget - Cheap Eats in Canggu for Under 100K Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak Warung Kolega Run by a lovely husband-and-wife team who are usually at the cashier, this local favourite is especially popular with nearby office workers during lunch. Like many traditional warungs, you'll find a display of pre-cooked dishes. While the menu features dishes from across Indonesia, most are prepared in the Javanese style - like their rendang (beef curry), it's sweeter rather than spicy. They also serve two of Indonesia's iconic soups: rawon (black beef soup), and soto ayam (chicken soup). Warung Kolega is perfect for when you're short on time but still want a proper home-style Indonesian meal. 📍 Location: Warung Kolega ⏰ Opening Hours: Mon-Sat, 9am-8pm Image credit: Warung Kolega Instagram Warung Liku With just around 20K, you can get something filling, delicious, and quite healthy too. Their signature dish is ayam betutu, a Balinese spiced chicken, served in the form of nasi campur; rice and a selection of side dishes. The chicken is very aromatic, with a subtle wood-fire smokiness, and so tender it easily falls off the bone. 📍 Location: Warung Liku Nakula ⏰ Opening Hours: Mon-Sun, 8am-3pm Image credit: Warung Liku's Instagram You may also like this article: Restaurants in Legian and Seminyak - Kata Bella's Picks 2026 Made's Warung They’re a true legend and an absolute must on this list, especially for those who have never been and are trying Indonesian food for the first time, before venturing into more local warungs and street food spots. I used to go often to the Kuta branch when I was little, and now I usually visit the Seminyak one. I still order the same favourite: half nasi goreng, half gado-gado (fried rice and Indonesian salad with peanut dressing) - simple, comforting, and always satisfying. 📍 Location: Made's Warung Seminyak ⏰ Opening Hours: Mon-Sun, 10am-11.30pm Image credit: Made's Warung Instagram Waroeng Bernadette It's a great choice when you want a more refined Indonesian dining experience; the space is comfortable, the food presentation is nice, but the flavours stay authentic. The highlights for me are the beef rendang, the comforting sop buntut iga (beef rib soup), the classic sate ayam (chicken satay), and a warm bowl of bakso kuah (beef meatball soup) - all familiar dishes, done really well. 📍 Location: Waroeng Bernadette Seminyak ⏰ Opening Hours: Mon-Sun, 11am-10pm Image credit: Waroeng Bernadette Instagram Canggu, Umalas, and Kerobokan RM. Aryani Their speciality is fish dishes, served either deep-fried or in sweet and sour soup. There are also side dishes like stir-fried bean sprouts, baby squid, prawns, my all-time favourite, otak-otak (fish cake) and many different types of sambal (chili paste). The restaurant itself has the kind of charm you’d find in Bali restaurants back in the 90s - nostalgic, and full of character. It’s best to visit RM Aryani in a group so you can order a variety of dishes and try a little bit of everything together. 📍 Location: RM. Aryani ⏰ Opening Hours: Mon-Sun, 10am-10pm Image credit: RM. Aryani Instagram Dapoer Asia If you’re a traveller trying Indonesian food for the first time, this is a great place to start. The flavours are authentic enough for locals to enjoy, but not too heavy on herbs and spices, making it really approachable for first-timers - it’s good value too for a nice restaurant, not overpriced. They serve all the comforting dishes you’d expect from a home-cooked Indonesian meal, from nasi liwet (fragrant rice), soto ayam (Indonesian chicken soup), and sayur asem (sour soup) to sate ayam (chicken satay) and bakwan jagung (corn fritters). Make sure to save some room for their dessert drinks like es cincau (grass jelly drink) and es campur (mixed shaved ice). 📍 Location: Dapoer Asia ⏰ Opening Hours: Mon-Sun, 10am-9.30pm Image credit: Dapoer Asia Instagram You may also like this article: My Little Canggu Restaurant List - Part 1 Ayam Kampung & Rawon Bu Ros I like to think that in Java, if a restaurant has a photo of the owner on the sign, it’s usually good - because most of the time, it really is! Haha. Their signature dish is rawon, a rich beef soup with a deep black broth originated from East Java, but their soto ayam and fried chicken are just as good and really comforting after a long day. It’s a very local spot, but I’ve started seeing more foreigners trying rawon there lately and actually enjoying it, which is really nice to see. Rawon is life! 📍 Location: Ayam Kampung & Rawon Bu Ros ⏰ Opening Hours: Mon-Sun, 10am-10pm Image credit: Bu Ros Instagram Warung Sundari It’s a warung-style restaurant where the food is already pre-cooked, and you simply pick what you want from the display. There are so many options that, very often, I find it hard to choose. The menu rotates with Indonesian favourites, covering all kinds of proteins like fish, chicken, and beef, plus plenty of vegetables from beans and carrots to broccoli. They also mix it up with a few international dishes now and then, like chicken teriyaki or beef stew. 📍 Location: Warung Sundari ⏰ Opening Hours: Mon-Sat, 9am-7pm Image credit: Warung Sundari Google Page Hope this list helps you find a few comforting Indonesian food spots in Bali that you’ll keep coming back to, just like I do. Thank you for reading and until my next article!

Pastries, Passion, and a Little Bit of Magic at Theo’s Wife Lois Image

Pastries, Passion, and a Little Bit of Magic at Theo’s Wife Lois

I’ve got a pretty busy schedule and travel for work sometimes, but I refuse to be that person whose life is just work. So whenever I have to be out of town for a business trip, I make sure I squeeze in some me-time between meetings. I was recently in Bandung for a few days. I know Bandung has a cool coffee culture and is a fashion hub, but I only had a few hours to explore the city before my flight, so I had to be picky about where I went. In the end, I chose Theo’s Wife Lois. From what I gathered from their Instagram and menu, Theo and Lois are husband and wife who share a passion for adventures, art, and, of course, food - Theo in the hot kitchen and Lois in desserts. I somehow imagined them as Wes Anderson characters. Together, they created this charming restaurant. You can instantly sense their fun and quirky personalities the moment you step inside. I arrived quite early around 8am, and unlike in Bali, where breakfast spots are packed by 7am, the place was still empty. Or maybe I just got lucky? Because apparently, this place gets really busy. If I'm not mistaken, you are only allowed to stay for a maximum of 2 hours (but I didn't need that much to finish my breakfast so it was no biggie). Naturally, the first thing I did was explore the middle island, where all the cakes and pastries are displayed - sweet tooth represent! Since it felt like a bit of a holiday, I decided to indulge in a matcha scone and a Mochilembu - a Cilembu sweet potato flavoured bomboloni with clotted cream and a surprise mochi inside. Yum yum! Both were absolutely delicious, with just the right amount of sweetness. And let’s not forget the coffee - it was smooth and easy to drink. I think the pastry and cake varieties change every day or every other day. But when I was there, they had bombolonis with various fillings; Lembang berries, apple, azuki - and donuts with fun toppings like vanilla yuzu, peanut butter and jelly, cookie crumble, and pistachio. There was also a selection of financiers and pretzels, ranging from original and chocolate to almond nougatine. And if you're feeling a little naughty, they even had cheesecake and cookies - we make the rules when we're adults, so we are allowed to have them for breakfast right? Hehe. I didn’t see until I needed to go to the toilet that they have more seating at the back - oh, and a proper dining menu too, which looks amazing! Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to try it this time… but next time for sure! Being there, I realised that when something is made with so much love and passion, it shows in all the little details; the sweet creations, the interior, the colour palette, the witty quotes, the bright pink takeaway boxes, the sticker sets, and even the little mementos they’ve collected during their travels. I honestly feel like I could be good friends with Theo and Lois! Hahaha - if you two are reading this, hellooo! ;) If you’re ever in Bandung, this place should definitely be on your must-visit list. Whether you’re after a quiet morning treat or a full dining experience, Theo’s Wife Lois is a gem that truly reflects the love and creativity behind it. Can’t wait to go back and try more! Stay tune at Kata Bella! Ps. I did bring home more matcha scones and a yuzu one, and they were still just as good a few days later (I kept them in the freezer). Theo's Wife Lois - Jl. Breakfast Spots in Canggu Worth Waking Up Early For Image

Breakfast Spots in Canggu Worth Waking Up Early For

Breakfast spots in Canggu I’m not a morning person, but I will wake up early for a warm cup of piccolo, croissants, a nice plate of eggs, bacon, baked beans, and toast that I don’t have to cook myself. Canggu really feels like it’s made for early birds though - everywhere you look in the morning, breakfast spots are always packed; from healthy to hearty, to the occasional naughty breakfast, hehe. But sometimes having too many options makes it hard to decide where to eat. So here, I’ve picked a few of my favourites for you to try - maybe one each day if you haven’t already, depending on what you’re craving. If you want to skip breakfast and go straight to lunch, or are planning a nice dinner out, you can check out my other dining list article here: My Little Canggu Restaurant List - Part 1 My Little Canggu Restaurant List - Part 2 Canteen Cafe I’ve been going to Canteen for years and basically take everyone here; friends, parents, dates, tourists, because this place is pretty laid-back and not as pricey as most breakfast spots in Canggu. I always order the same thing (I know, I know!): the Honky Tonk - homemade hash browns with poached eggs, smashed avo, bacon, and salsa. That said, I’ve tried other things on the menu every now and then, and they’re mostly good.  Canteen, if you’re reading this, please never remove the Honky Tonk from the menu or I’ll cry, kthxbye. 💰 Price range: IDR 60K-150K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 7am-4.30pm 📍 Address: Jl. Batu Mejan Canggu No.33, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Badung, Bali  Image credit: Canteen Cafe Instagram Rise and Shine It’s a breakfast spot that makes you go “aww” the second your food arrives. Everything is beautifully plated, but then you take a bite and realise it actually delivers. Not just pretty for Instagram, but genuinely good. Think colourful smoothie bowls, or rolled pancakes, combined with good coffee, it’s your everyday comfort breakfast but a little extra special.  Ps. There’s also another Rise and Shine in Umalas Bumbak if you happen to be around the area. 💰 Price range: IDR 50K-150K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 7am-5pm 📍 Address: Jl. Padang Linjong No.71, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali  Image credit: Rise and Shine Instagram You may also like this article: Best Coffee Shops in Canggu, Umalas, and Nearby Areas Island Bagels Despite the name making it pretty obvious that they sell bagels, the one thing I always order from them is...their breakfast wrap, lol! Thank you so much, Island Bagels, for keeping the Hangover Wrap on the menu for what feels like forever, because it’s still my favourite. You definitely don’t need to be hungover to enjoy this naughty little breakfast; beef patty, bacon, melted cheddar, and chilli mayo all wrapped up in one delicious bite. I’m sure their bagels are amazing too, so you should definitely give those a try, hehe. Ps. There are two Island Bagels' locations, one in Berawa and one in Pererenan. 💰 Price range: IDR 60K-150K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 8am-12am 📍 Address: Jalan Pantai Berawa, Tibubeneng, Kuta Utara, Canggu Image credit: Island Bagels Instagram Gather Gather around, picky eaters! *pun intended. I want to share a breakfast spot where you can build your own breakfast, so you don’t have to stress the wait staff with requests like: “Can I have only avocado slices, two eggs sunny side up (medium well, please), with bacon..but without this and that?” *guilty. Here, you can totally be that person - and if customising your own plate isn’t your thing, they also have a regular a la carte menu with plenty of classic options to choose from.💰 Price range: IDR 100K-250K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 8.30am-5pm📍 Address: Jl. Pantai Pererenan No.98, Pererenan, Badung Image credit: Gather Instagram Fold Good pastries, good coffee, plus aircon in Bali’s heat while most Canggu cafes are open-air - and that, kids, is how Fold wins every time. Do come early, as pastries can sell out pretty quickly. They also have cakes and proper cooked breakfast if you’re in the mood for eggs benny and all that, but I go to Fold mainly for the croissants (and sometimes donuts hehehe). 💰 Price range: IDR 50K-200K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 7am-6pm 📍 Address: Jl. Nelayan No.31, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Badung, Bali Image credit: Fold Instagram Butterman I used to live walking distance from Butterman, and there was a time when my diet consisted of maybe 80% almond croissants - it’s hard not to. Once or twice, I did order their breakfast menu as well, which they have alongside freshly baked pastries every day. But I usually go to Butterman for their croissants which they claim are “hotter than your man”…But I’m not quite sure how to tell them they’re wrong though, because I’m secretly married to Ryan Gosling.  💰 Price range: 50K-150K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 6.30am-6pm 📍 Address: Jl. Pantai Berawa No.10, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Badung, Bali Image credit: Butterman Instagram Gigi Susu I still have no clue why so many people line up to take photos in front of Gigi Susu’s tiny booth, but I do know why they do it for the croissants, hehe. Getting their pain au chocolat can be quite a mission - if you want to beat the crowd, you’ve got to show up super early. I’ve only ever ordered their pastries to go and eaten them at home, hiding from the world. They’re pretty good, and huge! Oh, also, they have a dining area now too, so maybe next time I'll stay and have a big breakfast there. 💰 Price range: 50K-100K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 6am-10pm 📍 Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.80, Kec. Kuta Utara, Badung, Bali  Image credit: Gigi Susu Instagram You may also like this article: Bali on a Budget - Cheap Eats in Canggu for Under 100K Milk and Madu This place has been around in Canggu for quite some time and now has branches in other locations too, and it’s still top of mind for a lazy weekend brunch, whether with friends or solo. They’ve got all the usual comfort breakfast and brunch classics like eggs benny and the rest, but I cannot not order their salted caramel cheesecake every time. Rules of society don’t exist on weekends…in Bali. You want cheesecake for breakfast? You have cheesecake for breakfast. 💰 Price range: 60K-150K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 7am-10pm 📍 Address: Jl. Pantai Berawa Jl. Tegal Sari No.52, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Badung, Bali Image credit: Milk and Madu Instagram Little Frenchie It’s a cute little restaurant in Pererenan and it’s close to my gym, so it has become a bit of a comfort ritual after training. They have all the classic all-time favourites like butter croissants, plus must-tries like Louie’s eggs benedict and croque madame. Simple and indulgent - the kind of slow morning vibe I love. 💰 Price range: 40K-200K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 9am-10pm 📍 Address: Jl. Munduk Kedungu No.39, Pererenan, Kec. Mengwi, Badung, Bali Image credit: Little Frenchie Instagram Canggu can be crazy, but it has all the things I’ve come to consider basic needs, like good croissants, healthy breakfasts, and quick, easy spots nearby that open super early. Little joys like that fix everything a slow morning is supposed to. Also, half the joy here is not having to think too hard about where to go next… just follow the cravings, show up a little hungry, and let Bali do its thing. And if you end up ordering cheesecake for breakfast or queuing for pastries at 6AM, I fully support your life choices. Thank you for reading, and until my next foodie article! *chom chom chom
