Sazón Bali : Spanish flavours in Canggu Image

Spanish Restaurant in Canggu

Bali is such a melting pot of cultures, and as a food lover, I feel like the dining options here are endless. I love Indonesian and Balinese food, of course – but I also enjoy trying dishes from other countries. One of the things I really appreciate about living in Bali is that I can explore so many different cuisines without having to travel far.

Not long ago, a friend of mine from Regent Bali Canggu invited me to the grand opening of one of their new restaurants, Sazón. They gave us a little sneak peek of what’s on the menu during the party, and it made me want to come back for more. And I did! I went back to Sazon, and here’s a little story about my evening filled with delicious Spanish food and good company.

I rarely eat Spanish food and, I gotta be honest, I didn’t know much beyond the famous paella. But Chef Javier passionately walked us through each dish as he served our dinner, from starters to dessert – and I soaked it all up like story time on a plate. I enjoyed every bite. Here’s what we had.

Gilda

“Look it up on Google,” Chef Javier said. Turns out Gilda is a 1946 black-and-white romance film starring Rita Hayworth. So, why was the Gilda on my plate marinated tuna with olives and peppers? hehe. Well, Gilda is a classic Spanish tapa named after the film because, just like the movie, it’s bold, salty, and full of spicy flavour. It was a lovely intro to the courses that followed.

Spanish Restaurant in Canggu

Pa Amb Tomàquet

As simple as it looks, and as basic as it sounds on the menu; bread, tomato, ham – this dish tasted like so much more than just those three elements. I’m not exactly sure where all the flavour came from, but wow, my taste buds and tummy did a little happy dance. The ham isn’t your average ham, it’s Jamón Ibérico, a premium cured pork from Spain. I could’ve easily eaten a whole plate of it, but there was more food on the way, and I had to save some room in my tiny stomach.

Croquetas

The name pretty much says it all. We have an Indonesian version called kroket – pronounced the same. We tried the one filled with mushrooms, and it was deliciosa!

Japanese Scallop, Ajoblanco

Just when I thought it was time for the main course, another round of sharing bites arrived. At this point, I started to regret my fitted outfit choice! Haha, I probably left Sazón looking three months pregnant (with food baby, of course). Okay, back to the dish – I’m a big seafood fan, especially scallops, and everything in this one worked perfectly together: dill, cucumber, almonds.

Patatas Bravas

Potatoes – but make it fancy, with aioli and spicy tomato. I’ve always loved potatoes in any form, but I didn’t know there was another kind to love… until this.

Ibérico Grilled Pork & Mushroom Paella

And here it is – the main event and the highlight of my evening: the paella. Rich, comforting, and full of flavour, this dish perfectly combines tender Ibérico grilled pork with earthy mushrooms. Even though it’s not something I eat often, it tasted very comforting and somehow familiar.

Santiago Cake, Orange Curd & Toasted Meringue

I’m a dessert person, and I believe there’s always room for dessert—but we were heading into a serious food coma, so we decided to share the Santiago cake, a Spanish almond cake. It’s flourless and moist with a sponge-like texture—not too sweet, with a lovely hint of citrus from the orange curd.

All in all, Sazón is a great addition to Canggu’s buzzing dining scene. Whether you’re into Spanish food or just here for a tasty night out like me, they serve up good vibes and even better dishes. Their tagline, “más amor, por favor” (more love, please), totally fits – you can tell everything’s made with a lot of love. Can’t wait to go back and try even more from the menu. Gracias, Sazón!

Aesthetic Cafes in Ubud: 7 Beautiful Spots Worth Adding to Your Itinerary

Aesthetic cafes in Ubud. I rarely find myself heading to Ubud, but whenever I do, I’m always reminded that one day is never quite enough. Aside from its lush landscapes and slower pace, Ubud has a way of offering experiences that feel fresh and different from other Bali neighbourhoods - from wandering through art spaces and rice field trails to joining creative workshops, chasing hidden waterfalls, or simply finding a quiet corner surrounded by nature. And then...the coffee shops! So many beautiful cafes to explore, so little time, and (sadly) only so much space in my stomach, haha. With earthy interiors, jungle views, and that unmistakable Ubud aesthetic that just hits different, every coffee stop feels like a little experience of its own - from the way sunlight filters through rattan lampshades to how your matcha latte somehow looks even better against a perfect terracotta backdrop. Here are a few of those aesthetic cafes in Ubud that are worth adding to your list. The vibe is warm, humble, and inviting. The outdoor area is a lovely spot to slow down, enjoy the surroundings, and just take your time. You might come here because it’s a pretty place (and yes, it’s very photogenic), but you’ll probably end up staying for the freshly brewed coffee and that cosy, laid-back feeling. Kopi Pangeran | 📍Jl. Penestanan, Sayan, Kecamatan Ubud Image credit: Kopi Pangeran Instagram Cafe Lilu From the outside, it has a relaxed bohemian look, and walking in almost feels like you're visiting a friend's house. The inside space is homely, with natural touches and a tatami seating area that makes you want to kick back and stay awhile. And since it's located near the Monkey Forest, don't be surprised if a cheeky monkey pops up at the window to see what's on your plate, hehe. Cafe Lilu | 📍Jl. Lazy Cats Cafe has that effortlessly cool Ubud charm - a rustic interior with high ceilings, unfinished walls, and mismatched sofas that come together perfectly. The interior feels cosy, artistic, and a little bit quirky, like an old, slightly abandoned living room that's somehow comfortable to spend a couple of hours in, slowly sipping on a long black with a small bite. Lazy Cats Cafe | 📍Jl. Raya Ubud No.11, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud Image credit: Lazy Cats Cafe Instagram This is Bali This place feels like stepping into a dreamy little doll house with its all-white interior and playful mezzanine seating. It’s not a big space, but it’s full of character. Everything feels thoughtfully designed, from the cosy layout to the little details that make the experience special. Even the glassware and plates they use add to the cute, whimsical atmosphere, making the whole place feel like a carefully curated little world. This is Bali | 📍 Jl. Goutama No.2, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud Image credit: This is Bali Instagram Jinny's Garden Tucked away down one of the little alleys off Jalan Goutama, Jinny's Garden is a cute semi-outdoor cafe surrounded by lush greenery, with warm, inviting lighting and a relaxed atmosphere. It may be small, but it's cosy and there's upstairs seating area as well. The menu offers plenty of Western dishes to choose from, though unfortunately there aren't any desserts. Jinny's Garden | 📍Jl. Goutama, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud Sacra Stuja If you're after a place with that laid-back Ubud vibe, this is the spot. It feels calm from the outside, and once you step in, you'll find a cosy bohemian space that almost feels like a giant tent, with plenty of natural touches and lush greenery adding to its charm. If you've got your furry friend with you, you'll be happy to know it's pet-friendly too. Sacra Stuja | 📍 Nyuh Kuning Rd Desa Adat No.77x, Mas, Ubud Image credit: Sacra Stuja Instagram Clear Cafe You step inside, but then somehow find yourself in the “outdoors”, hehe. Clear Cafe's open-air space is surrounded by lush greenery, with a peaceful fish pond creating the calming sound of flowing water. Filled with natural elements, warm textures, and plenty of plants, the whole place feels like a hidden garden escape where you can slow down and enjoy a quiet moment in Ubud. Clear Cafe | 📍 Jl. Hanoman No.8, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud Image credit: Clear Cafe Instagram Note to self: spend more time in Ubud. While the aesthetic spots are definitely worth exploring, there’s something special about being surrounded by this greener, slower side of Bali again. Ubud has grown and changed over the years, but somehow the feeling I remember from when I was little is still there - the calm energy, and that little bit of magic in the air. Hopefully, it stays this way for many years to come. And just like my other restaurant lists, this one will keep growing. The Kata Bella troop will continue exploring, discovering, and finding more hidden gems to share with you along the way.

Best Coffee Shops in Canggu, Umalas, and Nearby Areas: My Personal Favourites

Best Coffee Shops in Canggu, Umalas, and Nearby Areas I’m not a coffee connoisseur, just a regular girl who needs her daily caffeine fix to survive the chaos of life. So don’t expect a deep dive into brewing methods, tasting notes, or where the beans are grown here. Instead, I’m simply sharing my go-to coffee spots near where I live in Bali, mostly Canggu, Umalas and the surrounding areas. This is also not a list of "The Most Instagrammable cafes" (though they are pretty cute); some are small, humble, and just….nice. So, if you're looking for great coffee without the fluff - let’s get into it. You may also like this article: My Little Canggu Restaurant List - Part 1 CANGGU: Berawa, Batu Bolong, Babakan Satu Satu Coffee Here’s one of the reasons why I keep coming back to Satu Satu: I drink Piccolo but I also live in Bali, right. So baristas, if you’re reading this, please don’t hate me, but I like my Piccolo ice cold. And Satu Satu is one of the few places that gets the balance of coffee, milk, and ice just right. It’s never watered down, but also not too intense. I often buy their ground coffee as presents for friends and family. The staff will ask how you brew at home so they can grind them to the right size - super helpful! 📍 Jl. Pantai Berawa No. 36, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara 🕒 Open daily, 7.30am – 4pm Image credit: Satu Satu Instagram Fine by Satu Satu If you like the coffee at Satu Satu but fancy a change of scenery, try Fine by Satu Satu. I usually stop by for a quick piccolo and a takeaway croissant, but I’ve noticed plenty of people working from there too. It’s a bright, spacious spot that looks comfortable enough to settle into for a few hours of work. 📍 Jl. Raya Babakan Canggu No. 51, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara 🕒 Open daily, 8am – 4.30pm Image credit: Fine by Satu Satu Instagram You may also like this article: My Little Canggu Restaurant List - Part 2 Two Face It’s one of the "By Suka" cafes, and I’ve always enjoyed their other outlets too. This one is connected to Muda/ By Suka. I like to sit upstairs - nice, airy, and perfect for a slow coffee catch-up with a friend. They also have a solid brunch menu if you’re feeling a bit hungrier than just coffee. You can also order from Muda/ By Suka and eat here. 📍 Jl. Munduk Catu No. 9, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara 🕒 Open daily, 7.30am – 3.30pm Image credit: Two Face Instagram Samm's Farm Coffee in a cool, outdoorsy space? Yes, please. Samm’s Farm is a lovely spot if you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy your own company for a few hours with a coffee and a bite to eat. It’s also great for a quick workday, and it’s pet-friendly too. 📍 Jl. Canggu Padang Linjong No. 58, Canggu, Kec. Simple, unpretentious, and focused on their coffee - they serve proper artisan coffee with a nice selection to choose from. Beyond coffee, they also have pastries and a few main course options on the menu. The space is nice and humble, with a vinyl collection that makes it feel even more homey and comfy to hang out in. 📍 Jl. Pemelisan Agung Gg. Anggrek V No.7, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara 🕒 Mon-Fri 7am-5pm, Sat-Sun 7am-10pm Hungry Bird It's not the newest viral coffee shop, but we're here for the coffee, right? They've recently renovated the space, and it now feels modern while still being warm and inviting. Their coffee menu is worth exploring too, from fruity to chocolatey notes. And if you end up loving your cup, you can grab a bag of beans to take home - they make a great Bali souvenir for family, friends, or yourself. 📍 Jl. Raya Semat No. 86, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara 🕒 Open daily, 7am – 5pm Image credit: Hungry Bird x Blideguh Instagram UMALAS AND KEROBOKAN 7AM Bakers I like going to the one in Bumbak, but they now have a spot in Pererenan too. It’s roughly the same distance from where I live to either one. The space is nice for a quiet hangout with friends or a quick work-from-cafe session. If you get hungry in the middle of replying emails, they’ve got a tempting selection of pastries for cakes, plus a main menu if you’re ready for something more filling. Ps. The one in Pererenen has longer opening hours (7am - 10pm) 📍Jl. Bumbak Dauh No.88, Kerobokan, Kec. And unlike the old days, parking is no longer a challenge - there's a whole basement parking area for both scooters and cars. You really can't skip this one when you're in Bali. The space is big, stylish, and easy to spend a few hours in. And after all these years, Revolver is still one of my favourite places to go for a good coffee fix. 📍Jl. Bumbak Dauh No. 1, Umalas 🕒 Open daily, 7am - 10pm Image credit: Revolver Bali Instagram Eko Cafe This cafe is located in a laid-back area with a “settle down” vibe - you’ll often spot families with kids and dogs enjoying a relaxed breakfast, far from the busy surfer crowds or rushed office mornings. That’s exactly why I like it; I’m not a fan of crowded cafes, especially when you have to wait in line. The coffee here is nice, and they’re known for their healthy menu (but not too hardcore healthy, if you know what I mean). 📍 Jl. Bumbak Dauh No.89x, Kerobokan, Kec. Arnold’s Coffee may be small, but it’s full of charm, and it has everything you need to start your morning right. My family loves this place; we often end up staying a while, especially with the board games they have available. The coffee is nice, and you should definitely try the waffles. Best of all, the prices are affordable (I mean, things are generally cheaper once you’re outside central Canggu). 📍 Jl. Raya Semer no. 34, Kerobokan, Kec. Kuta Utara 🕒 Monday - Saturday, 7.30am - 5.30pm Image credit: Arnold's Coffee Instagram TGC Coffee Good coffee, a nice space, and fair prices - that's exactly why this place deserves a spotlight. Not far from 7AM Bakers in Bumbak, you'll find a small entrance tucked away on the corner that leads to TGC. It's easy to miss, but definitely worth seeking out. I like sitting outside, but the upstairs space looks like it'd be perfect for a work-from-cafe day. 📍 Jl. Bumbak Dauh, Kerobokan, Kec. If you know of any other nice coffee shops in the area, drop me a message! I’m always on the lookout for new favourites :)

Breakfast Spots in Canggu Worth Waking Up Early For Image

Breakfast Spots in Canggu Worth Waking Up Early For

Breakfast spots in Canggu I’m not a morning person, but I will wake up early for a warm cup of piccolo, croissants, a nice plate of eggs, bacon, baked beans, and toast that I don’t have to cook myself. Canggu really feels like it’s made for early birds though - everywhere you look in the morning, breakfast spots are always packed; from healthy to hearty, to the occasional naughty breakfast, hehe. But sometimes having too many options makes it hard to decide where to eat. So here, I’ve picked a few of my favourites for you to try - maybe one each day if you haven’t already, depending on what you’re craving. If you want to skip breakfast and go straight to lunch, or are planning a nice dinner out, you can check out my other dining list article here: My Little Canggu Restaurant List - Part 1 My Little Canggu Restaurant List - Part 2 Canteen Cafe I’ve been going to Canteen for years and basically take everyone here; friends, parents, dates, tourists, because this place is pretty laid-back and not as pricey as most breakfast spots in Canggu. I always order the same thing (I know, I know!): the Honky Tonk - homemade hash browns with poached eggs, smashed avo, bacon, and salsa. That said, I’ve tried other things on the menu every now and then, and they’re mostly good.  Canteen, if you’re reading this, please never remove the Honky Tonk from the menu or I’ll cry, kthxbye. 💰 Price range: IDR 60K-150K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 7am-4.30pm 📍 Address: Jl. Batu Mejan Canggu No.33, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Badung, Bali  Image credit: Canteen Cafe Instagram Rise and Shine It’s a breakfast spot that makes you go “aww” the second your food arrives. Everything is beautifully plated, but then you take a bite and realise it actually delivers. Not just pretty for Instagram, but genuinely good. Think colourful smoothie bowls, or rolled pancakes, combined with good coffee, it’s your everyday comfort breakfast but a little extra special.  Ps. There’s also another Rise and Shine in Umalas Bumbak if you happen to be around the area. 💰 Price range: IDR 50K-150K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 7am-5pm 📍 Address: Jl. Padang Linjong No.71, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali  Image credit: Rise and Shine Instagram You may also like this article: Best Coffee Shops in Canggu, Umalas, and Nearby Areas Island Bagels Despite the name making it pretty obvious that they sell bagels, the one thing I always order from them is...their breakfast wrap, lol! Thank you so much, Island Bagels, for keeping the Hangover Wrap on the menu for what feels like forever, because it’s still my favourite. You definitely don’t need to be hungover to enjoy this naughty little breakfast; beef patty, bacon, melted cheddar, and chilli mayo all wrapped up in one delicious bite. I’m sure their bagels are amazing too, so you should definitely give those a try, hehe. Ps. There are two Island Bagels' locations, one in Berawa and one in Pererenan. 💰 Price range: IDR 60K-150K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 8am-12am 📍 Address: Jalan Pantai Berawa, Tibubeneng, Kuta Utara, Canggu Image credit: Island Bagels Instagram Gather Gather around, picky eaters! *pun intended. I want to share a breakfast spot where you can build your own breakfast, so you don’t have to stress the wait staff with requests like: “Can I have only avocado slices, two eggs sunny side up (medium well, please), with bacon..but without this and that?” *guilty. Here, you can totally be that person - and if customising your own plate isn’t your thing, they also have a regular a la carte menu with plenty of classic options to choose from.💰 Price range: IDR 100K-250K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 8.30am-5pm📍 Address: Jl. Pantai Pererenan No.98, Pererenan, Badung Image credit: Gather Instagram Fold Good pastries, good coffee, plus aircon in Bali’s heat while most Canggu cafes are open-air - and that, kids, is how Fold wins every time. Do come early, as pastries can sell out pretty quickly. They also have cakes and proper cooked breakfast if you’re in the mood for eggs benny and all that, but I go to Fold mainly for the croissants (and sometimes donuts hehehe). 💰 Price range: IDR 50K-200K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 7am-6pm 📍 Address: Jl. Nelayan No.31, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Badung, Bali Image credit: Fold Instagram Butterman I used to live walking distance from Butterman, and there was a time when my diet consisted of maybe 80% almond croissants - it’s hard not to. Once or twice, I did order their breakfast menu as well, which they have alongside freshly baked pastries every day. But I usually go to Butterman for their croissants which they claim are “hotter than your man”…But I’m not quite sure how to tell them they’re wrong though, because I’m secretly married to Ryan Gosling.  💰 Price range: 50K-150K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 6.30am-6pm 📍 Address: Jl. Pantai Berawa No.10, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Badung, Bali Image credit: Butterman Instagram Gigi Susu I still have no clue why so many people line up to take photos in front of Gigi Susu’s tiny booth, but I do know why they do it for the croissants, hehe. Getting their pain au chocolat can be quite a mission - if you want to beat the crowd, you’ve got to show up super early. I’ve only ever ordered their pastries to go and eaten them at home, hiding from the world. They’re pretty good, and huge! Oh, also, they have a dining area now too, so maybe next time I'll stay and have a big breakfast there. 💰 Price range: 50K-100K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 6am-10pm 📍 Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.80, Kec. Kuta Utara, Badung, Bali  Image credit: Gigi Susu Instagram You may also like this article: Bali on a Budget - Cheap Eats in Canggu for Under 100K Milk and Madu This place has been around in Canggu for quite some time and now has branches in other locations too, and it’s still top of mind for a lazy weekend brunch, whether with friends or solo. They’ve got all the usual comfort breakfast and brunch classics like eggs benny and the rest, but I cannot not order their salted caramel cheesecake every time. Rules of society don’t exist on weekends…in Bali. You want cheesecake for breakfast? You have cheesecake for breakfast. 💰 Price range: 60K-150K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 7am-10pm 📍 Address: Jl. Pantai Berawa Jl. Tegal Sari No.52, Tibubeneng, Kec. They have all the classic all-time favourites like butter croissants, plus must-tries like Louie’s eggs benedict and croque madame. Simple and indulgent - the kind of slow morning vibe I love. 💰 Price range: 40K-200K ⏰ Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 9am-10pm 📍 Address: Jl. Munduk Kedungu No.39, Pererenan, Kec. Mengwi, Badung, Bali Image credit: Little Frenchie Instagram Canggu can be crazy, but it has all the things I’ve come to consider basic needs, like good croissants, healthy breakfasts, and quick, easy spots nearby that open super early. Little joys like that fix everything a slow morning is supposed to. Also, half the joy here is not having to think too hard about where to go next… just follow the cravings, show up a little hungry, and let Bali do its thing. And if you end up ordering cheesecake for breakfast or queuing for pastries at 6AM, I fully support your life choices. Thank you for reading, and until my next foodie article! *chom chom chom
