Slou

A lovely new spot to wind down in Ubud. The space is modern, bright, and spacious, with a minimalist yet aesthetic interior that creates a calm and inviting atmosphere. It’s nice to settle in for a slow breakfast or a lazy afternoon. They serve all the breakfast classics and Indonesian favourites alongside fresh juices, and with both indoor and outdoor seating, there’s plenty of room to spread out. Bonus points for being pet-friendly too.

Huma Cafe

One of those places where you can easily lose track of time. Surrounded by Ubud’s lush rice fields, this spot brings all the tropical Bali vibes with its bohemian touches and laid-back atmosphere. The menu covers both Asian and Western dishes, but the real highlight is enjoying your meal while surrounded by shades of green.

Coffee Shops in Denpasar What’s in Denpasar? Well...a lot, actually. Don’t just stick to one area when you’re on holiday in Bali. In case you didn’t know, Denpasar is the capital and largest city of Bali, as well as the island’s central hub for government, commerce, and everyday life. Beyond the busy city centre, you’ll find huge residential areas, local neighbourhoods, traditional markets, and plenty of places where everyday Balinese life carries on. And one of the things I love about checking out cafes and coffee shops here is the regular local prices. No viral cafe mark-up, just good coffee at prices that actually feel pretty reasonable. So, if you’re up for exploring Denpasar, here are a few coffee spots worth checking out, picked by the Kata Bella team and friends. Coffee starts from 27K, and they also have snacks and light bites at pretty good prices too. The menu is a mix of Indonesian comfort snacks like tahu bakso (stuffed tofu) and pisang goreng (banana fritters), along with various pastries and banana bread. One unique coffee that caught our attention was their lemongrass americano. 📍Google Map: Toko Kopi Jaya Image credit: Toko Kopi Jaya Google page Mai Little Space This little spot is tucked upstairs and feels a bit like going over to your friend’s house and they serve you coffee! Hehe. It’s a nice and quiet space where you can chill, or get some work done for hours. Their must-tries on the menu are their dirty latte, which has a hint of blueberry cheesecake, and the matcha strawberry. It’s a Japanese-inspired specialty coffee house and fusion restaurant, so you’ll find a good mix of Japanese dishes and, of course, good coffee. The whole place is decked out in Japanese-inspired details, from the exterior to the moment you step inside, even extending to the outdoor space. They have out-of-the-box coffee creations, like guava, strawberry, yuzu, and...seaweed coffee? Who would’ve thought! They do all the classics too, so you can still grab a good latte or Americano, but while you’re here, why not be a little adventurous, right? Or, you can take home one of their bottled coffees, with flavours like rose, red ginger, and pineapple. They now have several branches across Jakarta, and another one in Denpasar. 📍Google Map: Second Floor Coffee Patimura Image credit: Second Floor Coffee Instagram Seniman Coffee It’s one of Bali’s well-known coffee roasters, and there’s a reason why they remain popular among locals and travellers. I think a big part of the appeal is that the coffee is consistently good. They have a great selection of beans from different parts of Indonesia, including plenty of varieties from Bali, so if you’re into coffee, there’s always something good to try here. The space in Denpasar is pretty artsy too - well, Seniman means “artist” after all. From charming little cafes in quiet corners to late-night favourites that keep the crowds coming, there always seems to be a new spot popping up around every corner. And now, there’s another one to add to the list - a place for slow afternoons, golden-hour sunsets, and laid-back weekends in Canggu. Tucked inside The Arc House Canggu, a boutique retreat with 19 private pool suite villas, lies Mykaza - a little rooftop oasis with an easy, feel-good energy. The vibe is elevated yet relaxed, with that effortless barefoot Bali charm. What began as a modern Japanese izakaya concept evolved when the team moved to Bali. Surrounded by the island’s culture, its people, and incredible local produce, the idea grew into something even more special: a space where Japanese roots and Balinese spirit come together beautifully. The result is a concept where Japanese technique doesn’t overshadow local culture, but lets it shine in its own quiet, confident way. That same balance carries through the space itself. The interiors have a modern Japanese feel - clean, bright, without feeling too minimal or cold. Little rooms with tatami seating add a touch of tradition, while the overall design feels fresh, and airy. Step outside, and the mood shifts into tropical Bali holiday mode with a rooftop pool, and sun loungers. For Gerardo, Mykaza is also about something a bit rare these days - a space where people actually connect, not just sit together while scrolling in silence (we’ve all been there!). And maybe you can already guess it - the name Mykaza sounds a little like “mi casa”, and that’s exactly the idea. A blend of the Japanese name “Mikasa” and the phrase mi casa es tu casa...my home is your home. The hope is that everyone who walks into Mykaza feels that same sense of comfort and belonging. Come as you are and make yourself at home. A Japanese Menu with Bali in Mind On the menu, things get even more interesting. It's where Japanese and Balinese flavours come together in combinations that sound unexpected but make perfect sense the moment they land on your table. Think Babi Guling (Balinese iconic suckling pork) Dry Ramen, Hamachi Miso Matah, and Matcha-Miso Dadar Gulung (coconut-filled rolled pancake). More Japanese comfort dishes not to miss - start with the Asparagus & Ebi Tempura, Sake Tenkasu, or Tuna Wonton. Then move on to the Katsu Bali Curry before wrapping things up with Indonesia’s all-time favourite afternoon tea snack: Pisang Goreng (banana fritters) served with black sesame gelato. It’s a pairing that deserves a spotlight of its own.
